Google Rolls Out Penguin 2.0

Matt Cutts with Google announced on May 22nd. The next generation of the Penguin webspam algorithm referred to by the Google team as Penguin 2.0 will affect about 2.3% of English-U.S. queries which will be noticed by the regular user. The scope of the latest version Penguin does vary by language which will impact languages with more webspam.

"It's gonna have a pretty big impact on web spam," Cutts said this on the “This Week in Google” show. "It's a brand new generation of algorithms. The previous iteration of Penguin would essentially only look at the home page of a site. The newer generation of Penguin goes much deeper and has a really big impact in certain small areas."

Cutts further explains this latest version will specifically target black hat spam and a larger impact on spam than the original and other subsequent Penguin update had done before. This is the 4th version with the first version being introduced in April 2012, and two refreshers in this past May and October.
